Enforcement: what's happening now
One of the few EU countries with an actually enforced web-accessibility fine (Vueling). That makes the Spanish risk concrete, not theoretical.
Spain transposed the European Accessibility Act through Law 11/2023; since 28 June 2025 the accessibility obligation (WCAG 2.1 AA / UNE-EN 301 549) also applies to private providers of digital products and services, including e-commerce. Fines can reach up to EUR 1,000,000 for very serious infringements. Micro-enterprises are exempt, except in key sectors such as e-commerce. Selling to here from abroad?
The European Accessibility Act is market-based: if you sell products or services to consumers in this country, it applies to you, even if your business is established outside the EU.

All built on WCAG: in order once is in order everywhere.
Why this matters
Accessibility isn't a checkbox for a regulator, it decides whether roughly 1 in 6 people (WHO) can use your site at all. For them, an inaccessible store isn't a minor annoyance but a closed door. Fix the error in your own code and you remove that barrier and make your site cleaner for search engines, the same fix, double the gain.
Know where you stand, before the regulator does.
